Peilong Dong

PhD Candidate

Imperial College London

Former Project: Stress Corrosion Cracking of Low Carbon Austenitic Stainless Steels used in Dry Storage Canisters.

Peilong investigated the SCC suceptibility of austenitic stainless steels exposed to magnesium chloride and sea-salts. The materials studied include regular 304L plate material, 316L welded canister material and additively manufactured 316L. In addition to optical and electron microscopy characterisation techniques, atom probe tomography work was carried out to determine the presence and role of chlorine at SCC crack tips, to provide some insight into the mechanisms of SCC propagation.
